The Legend of Jain Guru Mahavir Swami

 

Mahavir Swami is a very well known name in Jain religion. He remaind to be the founder of Jainism.When Mahavir Swami attained Nirvan - left this world or you can say got mukti from this bandhan of jagat, his brother king Nandivardhan was very much upset with the departure of his brother Mahavir Swami to another world of mystery. He was so distressed with the death of his brother that he avoided to perform his prime duty as a king. It is told that in those days of deep sorrow and stress king Nandivardhan was comforted by his sister Sudershna. And the day king Nandivardhan was pleased by his sister was the Shukal Dwitiya of kartika i.e Bhai Dooj. Since then sisters in Jain Dharam are performing this ritual and celebrating the day as a day devoted totally to brothers for their well-being, happiness and prosperity.
