Diwali is celebrated every where in the world where Hindu community resides. It has special significance in our History. It is celebrated because of several reasons which makes it very important day. Actually in ancient time, Deva and Asuras decided to churn the ocean to get the powers and the immortalizing holy water. For this process a long was needed and Vasiki Nag (the king of serpents) was asked to do the work of rope. He agreed but then came the problem of some thing which can be used as churner and to some thing to hold the churner at the base of ocean. Then Mount Mandara got agreed to be used as the churner rod and Lord Vishnu incarnated him into a giant sized tortoise to hold the churner rod at its back. During the churning came out the Godess Lakshmi, the godess of wealth and prosperity. From that day, Diwali is celebrated as her birthday and every body want to please her on this occasion.
Story Of Narakasur
There is one other reason to celebrate Diwali i.e the killing of Narakasur by lord Krishna. The demon king Narakasur abducted 16000 doughters of devtas. The Narakasur was the son of Bhudevi and had acquired immense power and was torturing both devtas and human beings. All gods then went to Lord Krishna and prayed before him to save their daughters and to bring end to his tortures. But Narakasur had boon that he could be killed only by the hand of her mother. Therefore Lord Krishna asked his wife Satyabhama ,the reincarnation of Bhudevi as his charioteer in the battle with Narakasur. During the war Lord Krishna got hit by an arrow and fell unconscious. Then Satyabhama took the bow and aimed an arrow at Narakasur and killed him. Then Lord Krishna rescued all 16000 daughters of devtas and returned early in the morning and was bathed with scented oil. From that day the ritual of early morning oil bath has become a tradition in South Indians and they celebrate Diwali with zeal and zest.

He not only killed Ravana but also ended the terror of demons from the world at that time. Then he returned back to home on this day. The whole city was decorated with lights to welcome their most beloved prince Rama , his wife Sita and his younger brother Laxman.
