Diwali is the festival of lights. In fact the other name of Deepawali conceals it's meaning that is a Sanskrit language word and meant the row of Diyas. Diyas are earthen lamps and are the traditional sources of light. This shows the importance of light on Diwali. The lights used on Diwali are both traditional as well as modern. The traditional sources of lights are earthen lamps that are made up of clay. These have been used since ages. These lamps are cheaper and hence are even in the access of poor people. People use these earthen lamps buy filling with oil or ghee as fuel and by inserting a wick into it. People buy numerous Diyas and lit them on the roof, around the house and on the way to their house. These can be placed at any place even at some distant place from your house. This is the biggest advantage of this source of light. The mobility of this source is such that people put them at the places that are in the ambience of the house and have darkness. So these sources of light are amazing things for common men.

 

Another traditional source of lights is candles. The wax candles have been used in the houses since a long time. It used to serve the purpose of lights whenever electricity supply fails. The candles are ready-made sources of lights. The body of the candle is made of wax, which in itself serves the purpose of a fuel. The wick is inserted at the time of manufacturing of candles. Therefore people don't have to do anything with the candles for making it ready for lighting. They just have to put at the place and lit with a matchstick. These candles are also used for illumination on Diwali. On the occasion of Diwali candles of different shapes and colors are available in the market. The designer candles are candles are very attractive. Some candles are molded in some deity's shape, some are in shape of a women. Different artistic candles can be found in the market. Aroma candles are also very popular on the festival season of Diwali that make the atmosphere spiritual.

 

Now comes the turn of modern sources of lights. These are the electric bulbs that have changed the life of human beings drastically. These are available in many sizes or you can say in power capacity. The bulbs with small power produce less illumination and more power produce more illumination. On Diwali people use multi color bulbs to do lighting around their houses. Nowadays special lights are prepared for lighting on Diwali. These are made up of tiny electric bulbs of different colors connected in series or parallel. These lights look like a string of tiny bulbs and also have blinking effect. These have changed the lighting process and lighting effect on Diwali greatly. People love these lights very much because they give amazing lighting effects and also very durable and can last for years if kept carefully.
