South Africa is the southern most of Africa continent. There are many cultures in South Africa. It is probably having the largest most immigrant Indians. They are millions in number and most of Indians over there are Hindus. The Hindus are living there with their culture. They celebrate many Hindu festivals which are celebrated in India. Diwali is one of the important festivals which are celebrated in India. Diwali is one of the important festival for Indians residing in south Africa they celebrate diwali with same rituals and tradition as is celebrated in India. They do cleaning in their homes prior to diwali. They buy new things for home and new dresses to wear on this occasion. As the population of Hindus is more in Nutal and Transvaal, Diwali is celebrated with more warmth and craze in these part of South Africa. Like in India people decorate their houses with lights and candles and garlands on the day of diwali. They lit divas with craze as this is the traditional way of lighting and attaches them with diwali in India. They go to temple to worship Goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesha in the evening. The Hindu temples take permission from Local authority to fire crackers, usually sparklers in an open place so that people who come to temple can enjoy fire work together at one place. At home they enjoy the feast with family and friends and remind themselves the memories of India. They lit divas throughout the night to throw out the darkness and welcome Goddess Lakshmi to their houses. They celebrate this festival for the triumph of lights over darkness, the win of Good over Evil. People in South Africa are mostly from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamilnaidu and keeping their culture alive and giving their children this rich culture in legacy this way.
