Singapore has people who belong to different religions. There are large number of hindus. Diwali is the festival of unity for the people of Singapore as all of them involve in the celebration of Diwali without caring about their religion. It is celebrated in Singapore in the same manner it is celebrated in India. With the great pomp and show. People decorate their houses with garlands lights etc. thaw whole atmosphere becomes festive as does in India. It seems that joy and happiness as being shared in Singapore by means of Diwali celebration. On Diwali Serangoon road is well decorated with lights, flowers and with other decorative materials. Serangoon Road is ‘Little India’ in Singapore and is also commercial center of the local Indians. It is a place to watch on Diwali. Indians celebrate Diwali over there by worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha at their homes and their shops. They share gifts and sweets after performing the rituals at both places i.e homes and shops. Then they went to temples for offering prayers for their prosperity and well being. There are many temples in Singapore and people offer prayers at the temples. These temples and the atmosphere reminds the Indians their home and soil they belongs to these also help the new comers in settling there and soothes to some extent their pain of being away from home. When the sun sets people go to an open area light the sparkles. Crackers are not sold there and not allowed to fire because of noise-pollution but sparkles are allowed. People enjoy the fire work very much as people do in India. In this way Singapore has accept them by allowing them to celebrate this festival in Indian way and Indians has accepted Singapore and their people by making them involved in their cheers and joys.
