Diwali in Mauritius

 

It is well known fact that Diwali is being celebrated everywhere, where Hindu community has developed. Hindus are all over the world. Lots of people in fact large numbers of Hindus are living in Mauritius. In fact it is small India away from India. It has great crowd of Hindus or Indians. So diwali is celebrated over there with great enthusiasm and great pomp & show. It is a festival of lights, cleanliness & sharing of feelings. Diwali is celebrated in Kartik month of Hindu calender year which around October or November. It is celebrated on the moonless night of Kartik Month which is called Amavasya in Hindu Religion as per Hindu Calender Year. That is why lights are important & are attached with this festival. It is the day to welcome prosperity, good luck & wealth at your home and it is believed that Godess Laxmi “The Godess of these things” stroll around & look for the house which is clean & the way to which is full of lights. So people decorate their houses & do lighting around their houses to their best. So that godess choose their house & stay their. People use electric lights, divas and candles for lighting purpose. This day is also celebrated in the honor of Lord Rama’s Victory over Devil Ravana. It symbolizes the victory of Good over Evil. The victory of lights over the darkness. Besides all these, this festival also symbolizes the start of winter season. This is celebrated with great courage by merchants.On this day they start their new accounts, balance sheet, bahikhata etc and they worship Goddess Laxmi at their work place too.
