Diwali is one of the important festival of the people of Jammu and Kashmir . People of Jammu and Kashmir celebrates this festival with their own special style. Many days in advance they started preparation for this festival . People start cleaning and decorating their houses and shops. This festival starts from ‘ Ekadshi i.e the eleventh day of Ashwin. This day id devoted for preparing the choicest snacks and savories.
The Thirteenth Day of Ashwin is known as ‘Dhantrayodashi’. On this day people worship Goddess Lakshmi for Goodness of health, wealth and prosperity. At evening they lit one diva for every member they float in the river or pond.
The Fourteenth Day of Ashwin is known as ‘ Choti Diwali’ or ‘Roop Chaturdashi’.The people enleghted then houses on fewer scale. The children burst crackers. This day is also called ‘ Roop Chaturdashi’ because Hindus had a strong belief that while taking early bath and by doing meditaion they would gain beauty.
The Fifteenth Day of Ashwin is known as ‘ Laxmi Pujan ‘ or Sukshsuptika’. On this day the elders members of family would keep a fast. The people wear new clothes and goto temples. They purchase sweets, dry fruits and other eatable items on this day. The children burst crackers. At night the people worshipped God Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi. People illuminated their houses, shops, streets, temples and all public and private places by fancy lamps and lights.
The Next Day after Amavasya is ‘Muharat Pujan’. On this day all business establishments and their families perform’ Muharat Pujan’ because this is the first day of the leenar New Year and according to Hindus his is the first day of the New Year so every new work is started from this day.
The last day of this festival is called ‘ Bhai Tika’.On this day sisters put Tikka on the foreheads of their brothers and pray to God for their long lives and prosperity and in return brothers give promise to their sisters to help them. They also give money and gifts to their sisters.
So Diwali is a festival of joy and happiness. Everyone love this festival.
