Diwali Diya

Diwali is celebrated on the new moon night "amavasya". On this night moon doesn't appear in the sky and looks like darkness has engulfed everything. The importance of light on this night is very much. The darkness symbolizes lack of knowledge, falsity and evil powers. The light on the other hand symbolizes brightness of knowledge, truth and the good powers. The diya represent the eternal power of omnipotent and omnipresent god.. The bright light of diya removes the darkness and represents the win of light over darkness, the win of good over evil and the win of truth over falsity. The millions of diyas illuminated by the people let no space for darkness to hid. In Hindu mythology the illuminated flame of a diya always symbolizes God's power and that is why there is tradition of illuminating a diya in front of a deity every day. Even in aarti ritual that is performed in every puja, a diya is always illuminated.

The Diwali diya is a small earthen lamp that is filled with oil or ghee as fuel and is then illuminated at night. A cotton wick is also inserted into the diya. The diyas can be plain as well as designer one. Some people also use metal diyas. But most people use the earthen diyas as they can be used and throw and cheaper than metal one. Also these diyas are illuminated in numerous numbers in every house. Therefore the earthen diyas suit everyone.

But designer diyas have their own attraction and people use them for puja process and for lighting inside the house. People prepare their own designer diyas at home. They take traditional diyas and decorate them at home with their innovative ideas. Some people make diyas with the wheat floor dough and design them. Besides these home made diyas, markets on Diwali get flooded with the plain as well as designer diyas. Diyas painted with different colours, painted with different geometrical designs, decorated with mirrors and glitters, diyas filled with aroma wax are the attraction for the people and create an urge in them for buying.

Metal diyas have their own importance as they can be used time and again. People who want to illuminate diya regularly at their home in front of the deity like to buy such metal diyas. Now days even electric diyas are also available that contain a small electric bulb instead of wick and oil and illuminate with the use of electricity. The advantage of such diyas is that the wind can't blow them off. The single spout diyas are very common but multi spout like 7 spout, 11 spout, 21 spout and even 101 spout diyas are also available in the market. People like them for enlighten at their home in regular puja. The diyas in this way have great importance not on diwali but also in Hindu culture. Actually it is believed that the bright light of diya not only guides you on the physical path of the world but also show the right path to your soul to be one with the omnipotent god.
